Hays Pharma

January - March 2012

CHINA Hotspots

The healthcare sector is experiencing high growth in China. A number of new small to mid-sized companies are starting up and looking to fill a number of positions, including senior leadership roles. We are also seeing established and larger pharma companies expanding their market presence and moving into new territories in the West of China. Candidates with skills in research and development (R&D), sales and marketing, clinical trials and medical and business development are in great demand.

Overcoming skills shortages

In a competitive market environment there is a strong demand for the limited talent available. Employers are snapping up qualified candidates at a very fast rate. Where candidates with the appropriate background are short, companies are actively looking to recruit returning Chinese nationals from overseas.

The coming quarter

This coming quarter has seen a number of newly created and replacement jobs on the permanent side to support a high growth market, particularly larger companies that are expanding their footprint and overall headcount.

Executive recruitment

There has been some activity at this level with senior roles becoming open in commercial operations, market access, clinical operations and R&D.

Employer trends

Employers are being pushed to move more quickly and secure their talent as soon as possible, particularly in the R&D market as India is competing with them for R&D supremacy.

Candidate trends

The market is in a strong position at the moment with an increase in candidate levels across all areas of healthcare.
