CHINA Hotspots

There are a number of in-house construction roles becoming available in the market as developers acquire land in greater China and expand into new locations. Many of these projects involve months of engineering and design development which is creating demand for skilled specialists across mechanical, electrical and civil and structural engineering disciplines.

The recent completion of a number of developments in Shanghai, and around the region, has seen an increase in demand for property management and asset management skills. There is also demand for Region Leasing Managers which we expect to see continue for the remainder of the year. Candidates with project management skills are also well sought to help complete a number of unfinished projects within the housing property sector, as well as support vendors or service providers that have secured project management contracts across China.

Overcoming skills shortages

Companies are looking at using head hunters to help increase coverage and find better candidates who more closely match the job requirements.

The coming quarter

Currently all end user sectors such as manufacturing and operations, banking, IT and pharmaceutical are experiencing a huge expansion in growth in China. This has seen the number of building contracts due for tender also increase dramatically and has led to a big demand in the market for experienced property candidates.

Employer trends

Employers are starting to understand the importance of shortening their recruiting timeframes in order to tackle the candidate short market and avoid losing talent to competitors who may move faster to secure them. Line Managers are receiving a number of irrelevant CVs which is only slowing down the process further.

Candidate trends

We have only seen moderate candidate movement in the market as most candidates are staying with their current employers, so there has been no major impact at present to the job market.
