Hotspots
Candidates with current experience in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are highly sought after due to recent changes in regulations.
Product Control, specifically equity derivatives, is a rapidly growing market in Hong Kong and there is strong demand for skilled candidates in this area.
In order to fill these hot spots, many employers are engaging recruitment partners such as Hays to assist with campaigns to find both Hong Kong and international candidates. They are also promoting internal mobility to attract candidates.
Coming quarter
Since the Chinese New Year, there has been a growth in vacancies both in the financial and non-financial sectors. There will be some new headcount this quarter as well as replacement hires as people start moving.
Executive recruitment
Most active recruitment has been at the mid to senior level however this is likely to change by the end of the year.
Employer trends
Employers have been a little more flexible on salaries and seem to be open to relocating skilled people. They will also not only consider, but encourage, candidates to move from other markets.
