Candidates with business development skills are in strong demand within the manufacturing and operations sector, especially those who can help companies penetrate into new markets, says recruiting expert Hays in China.
According to the recruiter’s latest Hays Quarterly Report, Business Development and Strategic Marketing professionals, Experienced Sales Leaders and Quality professionals are the most in demand skills in the manufacturing and operations space.
“With more and more high tech industries seeking to collaborate with Chinese state own enterprises, Business Development professionals have become highly sought after,” says Simon Lance, Regional Director of Hays in China. “Candidates need to understand the local market, and possess global business vision and strategic thinking.
“Also, Strategic Marketing professionals are needed by manufacturing companies that are planning to bring new projects to China to assist with defining market penetration strategies.”
According to Hays, those manufacturing companies that have recently experienced a downturn in the market are seeking Sales Leaders with strong industry connections. “Some local Chinese companies are aggressively developing their overseas markets and require more talent in international sales and business development. Those sales professionals who specialise in globalisation strategies are highly sought after,” says Simon.
The recruiter also says that changing market conditions and high levels of competition have led to companies restructuring their organisations.
“By hiring Quality and Supply Chain specialists firms are seeking to improve their quality and supply chain system to better meet clients’ requirements,” says Simon. “Demand for professionals in automation and integrated supply chain control is particularly strong in the electronics manufacturing services industry due to a need for companies to improve efficiency.
“Quality specialists are in high demand as many manufacturing companies look to set up standard quality systems and quality control processes, which have become critical in the supply chain value stream. Candidates who have solid statistical analysis skills and a solution-oriented mindset are welcome in all kinds of industries.”
Other roles in demand include R&D Managers, Application Managers, Environmental Health & Safety professionals, Product Development Managers and Logistics Managers. “Much of today’s vacancy activity is the result of replacing departing staff, which shows candidates are still keen to look for opportunities to develop and advance their career,” says Simon.
