HAYS CHINA HELPS TO DEVELOP GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING
Two UK students are currently in their second week with Hays China as part of the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship. This high-profile scheme aims to develop young British people’s global understanding, providing them with an opportunity to engage with other cultures and business environments.
The students have already spent two weeks in a language school and two weeks in an education environment. Now in their final week, Hays has given the students an overview of how they operate in China and the various challenges and benefits of working globally.
“The Global Fellowship has given me the opportunity to see how some of the rising countries of the world work in terms of society and business. Additionally, it allows Fellows to see how different kinds of business work internationally, and what kind of results this brings about,” says student Alexander Jeffery.
“Language has been a major challenge however I was impressed by the ease in which Hays employees in Shanghai could switch between different languages. This made it easier for me to relate to the company even with limited Mandarin,” continues Alexander.
Student Gemma Whiteley says she learnt about how a global business functions at a national and international level. “I have experienced all aspects of a successful recruitment company; most notably the need for good business relationships with both clients and candidates.”
“There is also a strong work ethic at Hays, much stronger than I had expected. Everyone is so focussed on getting the sale, placing the clients and closing the deal. This has been an experience I will never forget and it will be invaluable to me in my future life and work.
Hays has also benefited greatly from the experience: “Both students have shown great enthusiasm, with new ideas and a thirst for knowledge,” explains Emma Charnock, Regional Director of Hays in China.
“This scheme is great for Hays as it gives us access to young English talent who are potential recruits for our global operations in the future,” concludes Charnock.
