HELPING STUDENTS ADAPT TO AN EMERGING MARKET

Hays China will host two students as part of the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship, a high-profile scheme that aims to develop young British people’s global understanding, talent and enterprise to engage successfully with other cultures and business environments.

For the second year running, 100 UK school and college leavers aged 18 and 19 will spend six weeks gaining firsthand experience of the scale and speed of the transformation of the economy in either China, India or Brazil.

“Two students will join Hays for two weeks from the 10th to 21st August. Their work programme will be developed specifically to provide a comprehensive overview of how we operate in China and the various challenges and benefits of working globally,” says Vanessa Cumbers, Regional Director of Hays in China.

During the course of the two weeks, the students will work with a mentor who will identify future development goals and equip them with the necessary tools to secure a career with a global company.

“As a global company operating in 27 countries, we are excited to share our knowledge and expertise with these students. However we will also gain from the experience. This scheme gives us access to young English talent who are potential recruits for our global operations. Each of the students have been selected because they are enthusiastic with great ideas, therefore I am confident they will be a great asset,” continues Cumbers.

Of the six weeks, the students will spend two weeks in a language school, two weeks in an education environment and then two weeks on company placement. The scheme, which ran for the first time in 2008, is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in the UK.

A launch will take place at the UK Ambassadors Residency in Beijing Friday evening, 24 July.
